A violinist since the age of three, Allegra Ludwig began her studies at the Westchester Conservatory in New York and was accepted into the highly prestigious Juilliard Young Strings program at the age of 9. Allegra attended Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studied under Hal Grossman majoring in violin performance. During this time, she performed professionally with the Traverse City Symphony and at the Interlochen Summer Music Festival with guest artists such as the rock band Kansas. She was also a guest artist at the Petoskey Music Festival.
Allegra went on to receive her BA from Duke University, where she studied with Eric Pritchard of the Ciompi Quartet and was the Concertmaster of the Duke Symphony Orchestra. Allegra traveled to Austria for the Duke in Vienna program where she performed with a string quartet in Prague, Budapest, Salzburg, and throughout Europe. Upon returning to Duke, she was accepted into the Durham and Raleigh Symphonies.
Allegra received her MA from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2007 and plays fiddle with the Irish band, Banthom House. She also enjoys playing music with her family including her two daughters, Cadence and Aria, accomplished musicians in their own right who play classical piano, guitar, and flute!
